The Creator Exists!
Probably not Definitely?
Zephaniah chapter 2 verse 3:- 3 Seek Jehovah, all you meek ones of the earth, Who observe his righteous decrees. Seek righteousness, seek meekness. Probably you will be concealed on the day of Jehovah’s anger.
Why does Zephaniah under divine inspiration use the word "probably" when talking about surviving Jehovah's day of Judgement?
Pure Truth not Lies!
Many so called born again Christians stick to the belief of "once saved always saved", but this idea could not be further away from the truth contained in the Bible! The thought that anyone becomes immune to judgement because they are born again as a Christian goes completely against the teachings of the Bible, there are numerous examples of people who were destroyed because of sinning even though they were formally servants of God:
Hebrews chapter 10 verses 26 to 31:- 26 For if we practise sin wilfully after having received the accurate knowledge of the truth, there is no longer any sacrifice for sins left, 27 but there is a certain fearful expectation of judgement and a burning indignation that is going to consume those in opposition. 28 Anyone who has disregarded the Law of Moses dies without compassion on the testimony of two or three. 29 How much greater punishment do you think a person will deserve who has trampled on the Son of God and who has regarded as of ordinary value the blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified, and who has outraged the spirit of undeserved kindness with contempt? 30 For we know the One who said: “Vengeance is mine; I will repay.” And again: “Jehovah will judge his people.” 31 It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.
The message of the above scripture is quite clear, a Christian has to continue practising his faith and always live his life based solidly on what the Bible teaches, not corrupting the truth of God's word, and he must continue living to the best of his abilities to the standards demonstrated by Jesus Christ and his Apostles. Remember that Jesus Christ is the only human who has never sinned, even up to his death on a torture stake!
We Cannot Avoid Sin
So what did Zephaniah mean when he used the word "probably"?
Even true Christians will make mistakes and sin many times during their life, if they didn't there would be no need to pray for forgiveness of our sins! But, it is wrong to think that praying every night for forgiveness of our sins will save us from Jehovah's wrath if we make a practise of knowingly sinning thinking that we will not be judged because we are a Christian:-
Being a Christian means living as a Christian, and this has to be accomplished by the standard that God sets, not by the standard that we set!
To Whom do You Belong?
1 John chapter 3 verses 7 and 8:- 7 Little children, let no one mislead you; the one who practises righteousness is righteous, just as that one (Jesus Christ) is righteous. 8 The one who practises sin originates with the Devil, because the Devil has been sinning from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was made manifest, to break up the works of the Devil.
It should be clear by now that the use of "probably" by Zephaniah was dependant not on Jehovah but on you! If you serve God to the best of your ability and recognise that God's forgiveness of your sins depends on first accepting the sin atoning value of Jesus Christs ransom sacrifice and then living up to your Christian obligations to serve the one true God with a complete heart, only then can that "probability" become "definitely".
Your Obligation?
2 Corinthians chapter 13 verse 5:- 5 Keep testing whether YOU are in the faith, keep proving what YOU yourselves are.
We can be grateful that there is a huge difference between wilfully practising sin and continually trying to avoid sinning, we all sin many times, but a true servant of Jehovah will never give up trying to improve, but always remember that Jehovah cannot be fooled, he knows what is in your heart!
